The Internet: Wasting Time Productively

Sometimes it really amazes just how much time I can actually kill while just keeping up with information in the world, and a bit of time spent catching up with friends. I’ve somehow managed to spend most of today alone just flipping through the various RSS feeds I read (most of which can be seen in the blogroll), a bit of IRC, E-mail, IMing, social networking time, and now Twitter added to the mix. The amount of information that a single person can take in on a daily basis is absolutely astounding – not that this is news to most people. I’ve just been feeling reflective on how interesting the various forms of communication we have available to us. God help me when I get a smartphone.

Now, mind you, I very much like spending my time doing such things, but I can’t help but think I need to find some sort of way of improving my efficiency. As is, I make liberal use of the Google Homepage to organize everything I keep track of in a central place, which does make going through feeds, etc… pretty snappy.

Still, I think I can manage a fair bit of time this evening to concentrate on writing. I’ve fallen out of it a bit – although at least the blog has been keeping me in the game decently enough.
