Cliqset: A New Social Netwok in Beta
Cliqset is a new social networking site, along the lines of Facebook and its ilk. It is currently in Beta testing, which I noted via their (brilliant) viral marketing campaign, where you can get an invite by tweeting a link to the beta page via Twitter (and I’m sure there are other methods as well). After I received access, I decided to figure out what, exactly, I just signed up for, and what was unique about the service.
While setting up my profile on it, I saw very little that was interesting at all about the site. While reading up on the service on their “For Users ” page, I noticed that they mentioned how many people had profiles scattered around the Internet, and one of the things they were attempting to do was to bring your profiles together into a single place. Neat idea. However, right now that seems to amount to creating links for certain services on your profile page. This was not exactly exciting.
It does appear that they offer an API for developers to create applications for users as well, and that seems to be one of their major focuses, where they note that they won’t try to compete with the user’s attention over developers. It might be interesting to see how this side of the site developers, but during this initial Beta phase, the whole thing seems pretty dull.
Time will tell on this one, I guess.
